Lexmark's Commitment to the Environment
As a provider of printing solutions and an ongoing stream of consumables, Lexmark has a unique environmental responsibility. Each year, Lexmark produces and distributes millions of supplies for Lexmark printers. For twelve years, Lexmark has recovered and reused or recycled used toner cartridges. The result is less solid waste and fewer resources consumed.
Lexmark Cartridge Collection Program includes various methods of return and sponsors unique collection partnerships around the world. Collection programs are always free to the consumer and are designed to be easy to use.
Why is Lexmark doing this?
Lexmark has environmental objectives that are implemented through a strategy to:
- Reduce the volume of solid waste material disposed of by all of us
- Reuse products and materials where we can
- Recycle, when possible, what can’t be reused.
Returned cartridges will either become Lexmark Factory Reconditioned Cartridges or be recycled with a 100% zero waste to landfill outcome, with no incineration. |

How does it work?
It’s simple. The Lexmark Cartridge Collection Program offers an easy, effective and environmentally positive way to handle your empty cartridges. Individual empty cartridges can be returned by contacting the dealer or retailer where you purchased your cartridges or by calling Lexmark on (603) 7492 0862 to arrange collection. Empty cartridges may also be returned through participating Lexmark Authorised Supplies Resellers.
A Few Facts about Chip Technology
Use of semiconductor chips is common in most of today’s electronic products, and they are also essential to the operation of Lexmark consumables.
In our laser toner consumables for the current product line, they perform many functions, including performance and diagnostics to enhance the output, quality and reliability of our printers. Use of semiconductor technology in toner cartridges facilitates efficient remanufacturing by helping to determine the wear on internal components so we can replace just the worn parts when we remanufacture them.
The chip on the Lexmark Return Program cartridge also helps enforce a customer agreement to send the used toner cartridge only to Lexmark for remanufacturing and recycling in exchange for an up-front discount. This practice has contributed to a sevenfold increase of returns to use over the past six years.
In our inkjet printer consumables, semiconductor technology actually enables the function of placing the ink on the paper, which makes printing possible.
